The art of going slow

What happens when you stop measuring a journey in kilometres?

Illustrative editorial travel story. The route and narrative are ideas, not a record of a confirmed trip or current conditions.

We are used to arriving. Finishing the drive, reaching the viewpoint, finding the photograph we came for. But some of the best things about travel happen between those moments.

A slow journey leaves room for the unexpected. A conversation over tea. A path that goes nowhere in particular. The sound of water around a bend.

This sample reflection captures the spirit of Beard Traveller: fewer checklists, more attention. The landscapes matter, but so does the person you become while moving through them.

Sometimes the way forward is simply to sit still for a little while.
